Vietnamese and American veterans reunite in Atlanta to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and receive mobility support through community partnerships
PRESS RELEASE
NORCROSS, Ga. – On Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., First Senior Center of Georgia (FSCofGA) will host a Memorial Day Commemoration to honor veterans of the Vietnam War.
As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the war’s end, this event carries special significance. It will bring together Vietnamese American veterans and members of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, many of whom served side by side during the conflict.
The gathering offers a rare opportunity for veterans to reconnect, reflect, and honor the millions who lost their lives, while reinforcing FSCofGA’s commitment to preserving their legacy.
Honoring Sacrifice and Shared Humanity
Von Tran, Executive Director of FSCofGA, shared:
“Whether Vietnamese or American, we share a common gratitude for those who sacrificed for freedom. We want to create a space where veterans can connect, share, and heal. Let’s remember together, express gratitude together, and build a future where their sacrifices are never forgotten.”
Mr. Be Ta, a former soldier of the Republic of Vietnam, added:
“We fought for freedom and democracy. On Memorial Day, we honor the 58,000 American soldiers who gave their lives—not only for America, but for the world.”
A Bond That Endures 50 Years
John Butler, Chairman Emeritus of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, emphasized:
“We bonded for life fighting side by side. Fifty years later, those relationships remain strong here in Atlanta, reflected in the Vietnam War Memorial at Brook Run Park.”
Community Support and Impact
The event will also highlight ongoing partnerships supporting veterans and seniors.
Angie Tolbert of PruittHealth Premier shared:
“This event is both an expression of gratitude and a reflection of our commitment to serving the Vietnamese community and all those in our care.”
In partnership with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), FSCofGA will distribute:
- 20 electric wheelchairs
- 40 shower chairs
to former South Vietnamese military members, supporting their independence and quality of life.
