On Wednesday February 12, 2025, Mrs. Von Tran, CEO of the nonprofit organization FSCofGA, was invited to speak to students in the Leadership Gwinnett program, a premier organization dedicated to educating, equipping, and engaging both current and emerging leaders.<\/div>\n

Leadership Gwinnett, organized by Gwinnett County, aims to foster diversity in people, perspectives, and experiences, with the expectation that new leaders will help guide Gwinnett toward a brighter future. Mrs. Von Tran was invited as an influential figure who has made significant contributions to the community, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by low-income seniors in the Vietnamese-American community.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During her presentation, Mrs. Von emphasized that Vietnamese immigrants have great potential, they contribute positively to society, and they often face significant barriers. Language limitations make communication and job-seeking difficult, while cultural differences can lead to feelings of isolation among seniors in the U.S. Additionally, a lack of understanding about social policies and welfare programs further hinders their ability to access essential services.<\/div>\n

Mrs. Von shared how her nonprofit organization, First Senior Center of Georgia, actively works to address these challenges. By offering English language classes, providing free food assistance, and helping seniors navigate government policies and benefits for low-income citizens, the organization plays a crucial role in supporting the elderly. FSCofGA also collaborates with other organizations, such as AT&T and the National Council on Aging (NCOA), to offer training sessions on technology, smartphones, and internet usage, helping seniors stay connected in the digital age.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Through these initiatives, First Senior Center of Georgia has helped many Vietnamese seniors\u00a0integrate into society and lead happier lives.<\/div>\n

Mrs. Von\u2019s impact goes beyond providing essential services\u2014she serves as a role model within the community, encouraging others to take part in helping those in need. Her presentation not only gave Leadership Gwinnett students deeper insights into the challenges faced by immigrant communities but also highlighted ways they could contribute. These emerging leaders were encouraged to get involved in support initiatives, organize cultural exchange events, and develop training programs to raise awareness about the issues immigrant’s encounter.<\/div>\n
