Vietnam War Veterans and Community Leaders Honored at FSCofGA’s Fall of Saigon Commemoration in Norcross

First Senior Center of Georgia (FSCofGA) will host a Memorial Day event in Norcross honoring Vietnam War veterans, bringing together Vietnamese and American communities to commemorate 50 years since the war’s end.

NORCROSS, Ga. – On Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., First Senior Center of Georgia (FSCofGA) will host a Memorial Day Commemoration to honor veterans of the Vietnam War.

As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, this event carries special significance. The commemoration will bring together Vietnamese American veterans and members of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, many of whom served side by side during the war.

The gathering offers a rare opportunity for veterans to reconnect, reflect, and pay tribute to one another, while honoring the millions who lost their lives. It also reinforces FSCofGA’s ongoing commitment to preserving their legacy.

Honoring Sacrifice and Shared History

Von Tran, Executive Director of FSCofGA, emphasized the importance of unity and remembrance:

“At FSCofGA, we believe that, whether Vietnamese or American, we all share a common gratitude for those who sacrificed for freedom. We want to create a space where soldiers can connect, share, and heal. Let’s remember together, express gratitude together, and build a future where their sacrifices are never forgotten.”

Mr. Be Ta, a senior at FSCofGA and former soldier of the Republic of Vietnam, reflected on the meaning of Memorial Day:

“We fought for freedom and democracy. The people of South Vietnam must always remember the sacrifice of American soldiers. On Memorial Day, we honor the 58,000 Americans who gave their lives—not only for America, but for the world.”

A Bond That Lasts 50 Years

John Butler, Chairman Emeritus of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and a Vietnam War veteran, spoke about the enduring connection between American and Vietnamese soldiers:

“We bonded for life fighting side by side. Fifty years later, those relationships remain strong here in Atlanta, reflected in the Vietnam War Memorial we built together at Brook Run Park.”

Community Support and Continued Impact

The event also highlights continued support from corporate and nonprofit partners.

Angie Tolbert, Vice President of Operations at PruittHealth Premier, shared:

“PruittHealth is honored to partner with FSCofGA and donate wheelchairs to members of the community, including distinguished Vietnamese veterans. This is both an expression of gratitude and a commitment to serving those in our care.”
